about

Recorded in the "Duff House" in Ames, Iowa around 2011.
This song was originally intended to be for Volcano Boys, and we did actually practice it a couple of times, but we moved on from it quickly. I was going through a bit of a health scare and I was also reading an Anne Rice novel called "Memnoch the Devil." I connected with her books for the religious themes and internal struggles with her characters. Staying with the "Demons & Demos" theme, this song is tied in with the main character Lestat meeting a creature and presence that could be the devil, or maybe something different. The outro (2:41) is one of my favorite melodic chord movements I've done.

lyrics

Here I am.
Wrap me up in your wings.
I don't need a reason to speak.

Here I am.
Peck my eyes out with your beak.
I don't need a reason to see.

Give me something to calm myself.
Give me something good for my health.
For my health.

Here I am.
Wrap me up in your wings.
I don't need a reason to breathe.
Here I go.
Sniff me out with your nose.
I don't need a reason to live.

Give me something to calm myself.
Give me something good for my health.
Give me something good for me.
Give me something good for me.
give me something good for my health.
For my health. For my health. For my health.

Give me something good for me...
Give me something good
because something is better than nothing.

Give me something good for my health.
