about

This was recorded at my apartment at Central College in about 2003. I had recently been turned onto Juliana Theory & Jimmy Eat World around that time and I think some of those emo influences snuck their way into this song. (Seriously, "Dear God, here we go again. Do I have to say the Word's "I'm Sorry?"')
This was always one of my favorites at that time. My great friend at that time, Ty Huey, loved it as well. It's always great (and sometimes rare) when a song strikes a nerve with someone and you can feel that connection.
I tried to make this a Keepers of the Carpet song but I remember the group getting in a fight while working on it and us getting sore about what direction we were taking the band.

lyrics

Baby, I tried so hard.
Bootlicked, now look where we are.
You think I'm so depressed,
but you're mistaken.
I'm just lyin'.

Baby, we lost from the start.
Maybe we forgot who we are.
You think I'm too underdressed
to the my maker of my highway.

Baby, you got what you want.
I walk in front of your car
to get your attention.
Did you forget to stop?!
Oh, quit your bitchin' there,
Mister Passenger Pigeon.
Won't you look it up?
Have you heard of extinction?
I bet you remember me,
Passenger Pigeon.

Save me, I'm learnin' too much.
I'll fall right back in your arms.
You think I'm so depressed,
but you're mistaken.
Or am I just lyin?

Baby, you got what you want.
I walk in front of your car
to get your attention.
Did you forget to stop?!
Oh, quit your bitchin' there,
Mister Passenger Pigeon.
Won't you look it up?
Have you heard of extinction?
I bet you remember me,
Passenger Pigeon.

Dear God,
Here we go again.
Do I have to say the words "I'm Sorry?"

Did you forget to stop?!
Oh, quit your bitchin' there,
Mister Passenger Pigeon.
Won't you look it up?
Have you heard of extinction?
I bet you remember me,
Passenger Pigeon.
